This is an important factor in winter growing. Compare the soil in your planters as a rechargeable battery. When the sun shines the soil is "charged" from the heat energy from the sun ( which is amplified by your greenhouse ). At night, the soil loses the stored energy of the battery but the "charge" is strong enough to keep it's heat before the soil starts to freeze deep into the soil. A good heat source will assist your plants in keeping that "charge" into freezing nights. The heater is not meant to keep the greenhouse all nice and "toasty", but to prevent the roots from freezing during the coldest winter months.
